AI readiness assessment for ServiceNow: a platform scan
You just ran an AI readiness assessment for ServiceNow and the dashboard turned green: Now Assist looks configured, the required tables hold data, and the findings list is short. Then your CFO asks whether employees actually trust the AI enough to use it well, and the dashboard has nothing to say.
The AI readiness assessment ServiceNow ships with, called AIRE and formerly NARE, is described in a Community post from June 2026: it scans agentic AI workflows across ITSM, CSM and HRSD, plus Now Assist products including AI Search and Virtual Agent.
- Agentic workflows for ITSM, CSM and HRSD
- Now Assist AI Search
- Now Assist Virtual Agent
- Now Assist implementations for ITSM, CSM and HRSD
ServiceNow's own system properties reference, published in April 2026, sums the tool up in three verbs: it scans your environment, scores your readiness, and estimates the remediation effort. We'd call that a configuration audit wearing a readiness label, not a check on the people who will actually use what gets configured.

The evidence stops at configuration, not your people

An AI readiness assessment for ServiceNow checks technical prerequisites before it runs. ServiceNow's October 2025 implementer walkthrough shows the job confirming that the ITSM Incident table holds more than zero records before it will proceed.
ServiceNow's documentation, updated in September 2026, shows the AI Admin Center's readiness card displaying findings sorted by status, restricted to an admin role. That is an instance health report, built for whoever administers the platform, not an employee-facing one.
| Dimension | What it checks | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Data readiness | Platform tables like ITSM Incident hold records | Admin |
| Agentic & Now Assist configuration | Setup across ITSM, CSM, HRSD, AI Search, Virtual Agent | Admin |
| Findings & remediation | Count of issues plus an effort estimate | Admin |
In our view, that's a fair trade: ServiceNow built this tool to protect its own rollout, and judged against that job, it does what it says on the box.

ServiceNow's own research flags a gap AIRE never checks
ServiceNow's Enterprise AI Maturity Index 2026 surveyed 4,500 executives and, for the first time, 2,000 employees, across 19 countries and 12 industries. Its Talent and skills pillar scored 49 out of 100, trailing other pillars in the index.
That figure comes from what executives and employees reported about their own skills and confidence, not from a measured skills test, so read it as perception data rather than proof of capability.
A separate 2026 synthesis of 19 industry and academic sources, by McClure and Gerdau, traces global corporate AI investment to 252.3 billion dollars in 2024, while only 6 percent of firms reported a significant earnings impact that year. A platform that passes every configuration check tells you nothing about that gap; we think CIOs conflate the two scores far more often than they should.

What analysts say CIOs still need to assess
Gartner's April 2026 guidance for CIOs lists assessing your workforce's AI readiness and trust dynamics as one of the first steps toward building a human-AI workforce, treated as separate work from any platform audit.
A 2025 qualitative study based on interviews with seven AI implementation experts found that hands-on experience with AI's limitations built more realistic expectations and more trust among employees. The sample is small, so treat the direction as a lead worth testing, not a settled rule.

Who can rely on AIRE alone, and who needs more
If Now Assist is only live for a handful of ITSM agents and nobody outside the platform team touches it yet, AIRE's scan may be the only evidence your quarter needs.
The moment AI use spreads to call center reps, HR business partners or frontline managers, a configuration score stops answering the question your board is actually asking: are people using this well, and do they trust it?
We'd skip presenting a green AIRE dashboard as workforce evidence to any board. It answers a different question well, and stretching it past that just erodes trust in the next report you bring them.

Pair the platform score with employee evidence
Treat AIRE's output as the authoritative read on your instance: configuration, data readiness and plugin gaps are exactly what it was built to measure. Don't ask a configuration tool to double as a workforce survey.
AI Adoption Score takes the other half of that question. It's a research-based assessment of the human side of AI adoption, covering skills, habits and culture, that maps people and teams against maturity levels you can actually act on.
Running an AI readiness assessment for ServiceNow after every major configuration change keeps your platform score current. Run your employee survey on its own cadence, since platform maturity and workforce readiness rarely move at the same pace.
One score tells you the system is ready. The other tells you whether your people are. Bring both to the board, not one standing in for the other.

Frequently asked questions
How often should we re-run ServiceNow's AI readiness assessment?
There's no fixed interval ServiceNow prescribes; treat each major Now Assist or agentic AI plugin update, patch upgrade, or new department rollout as a trigger to rerun the scan, since results reflect only the moment it ran. A quarterly check alone can miss changes once Now Assist spreads past the pilot team.
Does AIRE replace the need for an employee survey?
No. Even a fully green AIRE score says nothing about whether employees trust the system enough to rely on it, which is why Gartner's CIO guidance treats assessing workforce trust as separate work from any platform audit. Pairing both gives a fuller picture than either alone.
Who inside the organization typically reviews AIRE's findings?
Typically whoever holds the admin role on your Now Assist implementation, often a platform owner or ServiceNow architect, since ServiceNow restricts the readiness card to that role. If you want HR, L&D or frontline managers reading adoption evidence, that has to come through a separate, non-admin-gated channel.
Is AIRE the same tool ServiceNow used to call NARE?
Yes, ServiceNow's own materials describe AIRE as the current name for what was previously called NARE, with the same scanning function; confirm the current label in your own instance since naming has shifted mid-rollout.
